Yapper is designed to be a small, direct Mac utility. This page explains what stays on your Mac, what a cloud voice provider receives, and what the website measures.

The current downloadable preview does not require a Yapper account and does not send requests through a Yapper-operated server.
- Apple System Voice processes speech on your Mac. No provider account or API key is required, and the selected text is not sent to a cloud speech provider.
- When you choose ElevenLabs, Fish Audio, OpenAI, or xAI, Yapper sends the selected text and provider-specific speech settings directly to that provider so it can generate audio.
- Each cloud provider’s API key is stored separately in macOS Keychain and is sent only to that provider for authentication.
- Your shortcut, voice preferences, playback settings, and setup state are stored locally on your Mac.
- Yapper uses macOS Accessibility access to read selected text. When direct selection access is unavailable, it may temporarily use the clipboard to copy the selection and then restore its previous contents.
Cloud providers process requests under their own API terms and data controls: ElevenLabs, Fish Audio, OpenAI, and xAI.
Fish Audio's general terms permit Usage Data and Content to be used to develop, train, or improve its models. xAI states that API inputs and outputs are not used for training without permission and are retained for 30 days by default for auditing. Zero Data Retention is a separate team setting. Review each provider’s current controls before sending sensitive text.
The website
The website uses Vercel Web Analytics for aggregate traffic and conversion measurement. It does not use third-party analytics cookies. Vercel may process page URL, referrer, broad location, device type, operating system, and browser information.
The site records a few named actions—such as clicking Download or See how it works—and the location of that button. These events do not include selected text, API keys, email addresses, or app content.

Yapper is currently an open preview. You can report a privacy concern, installation problem, or product issue through the project’s GitHub issue tracker. Do not include an API key or sensitive selected text in an issue.
